Empty Bowls Event Well-Attended
March 23rd, 2012
The Ninth Annual Port Huron “Empty Bowls” Fundraiser held last night at St. Stephen’s saw a full house, and then some. The goal of the event is to raise money and awareness for the hunger that exists in the community and around the world. Local potters donated soup bowls for each attendee to take home as a reminder of the hunger in the Blue Water area. Attendees could also bid on a large number of silent auction items, as well as receive their choice of three soups in a bread bowl, a fruit and dessert. All proceeds from the Empty Bowls event last night are donated to the Mid City Nutrition Program and its Soup Kitchen. Last year along, the soup kitchen volunteers served 51,074 meals to the homeless and hungry in St. Clair County. The Empty Bowls event is a nationwide event that was brought to the area by Deacon John Conners, after his daughter attended an Empty Bowls event in Alaska. New this year was a donation of a quilt up for raffle.
