Light It Up Blue
April 2nd, 2012

April is Autism Awareness Month and the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention numbers now show that 1 in 88 children, impacting 1 in 54 boys – are being diagnosed with autism. Autism is a general term for a group of complex disorders of brain development.  Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that inhibits a person’s ability to communicate and develop social relationships, and is often accompanied by behavioral challenges.  There is an office in Port Huron for Autism Speaks, in fact the regional office for Autism Speaks is in Port Huron as well.  Throughout the month, WGRT is speaking with people affected by or associated with Autism and Autism Speaks and the Light it Up Blue Campaign. The campaign includes some 2,000 structures and buildings including the Mackinac Bridge being illuminated in blue lights in recognition of Autism Awareness Month. If you would like to find out more about Autism Speaks, call the local office at 810.824.4359
