April 13th, 2012
Olga Dazzo, Director of the Michigan Department of Community Health, has announced that Dr. Sushma Reddy, a local endocrinologist, has been chosen to receive a 2012 Hometown Health Hero award. The Hometown Health Hero award is a major part of the annual Public Health Week observance on April 23-27 in Michigan. The award recognizes individuals and organizations across the state working tirelessly to maintain and improve the health of their local communities. Winners are selected from nominations solicited across the entire state. Dr. Reddy is an active member of the county’s Healthy Lifestyles Coalition, Port Huron Area School District’s Health Advisory Committee, the YMCA Be Fit Blue Water Committee and serves as a trustee for the Community Foundation of St. Clair County. The Walk for Summer Reading program, a physician-driven initiative that has encouraged physical activity and improved reading skills in over 6000 county students, has thrived under Dr. Reddy’s leadership. Dr. Reddy states…”I am honored to accept this award on behalf of all the physicians of St. Clair County whose generosity, enthusiasm and support has helped to make this program successful. We look forward to partnering with the community to create a culture of healthy lifestyles.” The Hometown Health Hero awards have been presented for the last 8 years. A special event to recognize all of Michigan’s Hometown Health Heroes and Health Policy Champions has been planned for Wednesday, April 25th @ 11:30 at the Capital Rotunda in Lansing.
