Burtchville Joins Fort Gratiot In Recycling
April 23rd, 2012
Burtchville Township residents will be joining Fort Gratiot’s community recycling program starting April 28. An invitation was extended by Fort Gratiot Supervisor Doug Hannan after the program was reinstated mid April and the township had to turn away several Burtchville Township residents hope to take advantage of the service. St. Clair County discontinued a recycling drop-off location at Fort Gratiot’s public works department in mid-January, forcing residents who wanted to recycle to take their items to the county landfill in Smiths Creek. Fort Gratiot began an experimental program in April, testing whether residents would use a recycling service offered by the township. Recyclables are collected between 8 a.m. and noon on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month at the Fort Gratiot Middle School, 3985 Keewahdin Road. Some 100 and 150 residents took advantage of the program the first time it was offered. Hannan said Clyde Township residents were turned away from the first collection day and the township is considering inviting Clyde to join the partnership as well.
