Port Huron Votes "Yes" On Convention Center Agreement - Water Rates On The Rise
April 24th, 2012

Port Huron City Council members voted on an agreement with St. Clair County to support the proposed convention center at the Thomas Edison Inn property at their regular meeting last night. The agreement was approved by the county board April 19, and commits the city to remitting any captured Peerless tax increment financing dollars and MDOT mitigation funding contributions to the county to help pay for the $9 million convention center.  The city also is agreeing to certain improvements on Harker Street, which is the proposed main entrance to the location of the convention center.  Budget work has also taken place, and it looks like the proposed budget for the city of Port Huron, while down in overall numbers, residents will see just over a 6% increase in their water bills if the budget is approved.
