"Take It To A Vote" Says Owners Of The Ambassador Bridge
April 25th, 2012
Owners of the Ambassador Bridge say they would like to see a statewide ballot proposal that would ask the public if they feel Michigan should be prohibited from building a new U.S. to Canada bridge or tunnel unless voters approve. The Detroit International Bridge Co. has expressed opposition to the state constructing a bridge that would compete with the Ambassador Bridge. Matthew Moroun, whose family controls the privately owned bridge, is reported to have said last week that he feels Michigan voters should decide what course should be taken. According to reports, the petition language has been submitted to the State Board of Canvassers, and following approval of the language over 300,000 signatures will need to be gathered to put the issue on the November ballot.
