SC4 Receives Mastodon Skull Replica
April 25th, 2012

Replica similar to donation made to SC4

St. Clair County Community College’s artifact collection has grown thanks to the donation of a mastodon skull replica.  It is the third donation from Michael and Barbara Sincak, owners of Treasures of the Earth Ltd. in Hollsopple, Pa. The mastodon skull replica is about 8 feet long, including its 4-foot tusks. The original fossil from which the replica was created is from a mastodon believed to have lived about 15,000 years ago. The Sincaks value the donation at $6,000.  The skull will be put on display in SC4’s Natural Science Museum on the first floor of the Clara E. Mackenzie Building. The skull is expected to be unveiled this fall. The Sincaks in 2009 made two donations of artifacts they valued at more than $33,000 to SC4. Those artifacts helped to establish the Natural Science Museum. Many of those donations are on display in the museum.  Separately, an expansion of the Natural Science Museum to allow for more effective display of exhibits and display of additional pieces of the science collection is planned as part of the SC4 and SC4 Foundation’s All Aboard: Campaign for Talent, Technology and Tomorrow. The two-year, $1 million fundraising campaign launched Nov. 1, 2011. The $150,000 museum expansion project is one of five capital projects for which the college and SC4 Foundation are raising money.
