Mother's Day Being Celebrated At The Port Huron Museum
May 9th, 2012
The Port Huron Museum is celebrating Mother’s Day on Saturday May 12. The earliest evidence of Mother’s Day was celebrated by the ancient Egyptians. They would hold a festival of Isis, the mother of the Pharaohs. Early Mother’s Day celebrations in America started just after the Civil War and eventually became a national observance in 1914. Festivities planted the seed for what would blossom into today’s Mothers Day. You are invited to celebrate Mom with a hand painted flower pot. They will also be teaching a little about gardening as flowers are planted in the pots. (Just in time for the perfect Mother’s Day gift!) This 1 1/2 hour program begins promptly at 1 pm, costs $6 per person and $4 per museum member. Pre-registration is recommended, with a maximum of 25 persons per program. 10 person minimum required for all historic programs
