Ferry Charges May See Increase
May 10th, 2012
Starting June 1, the cost to take the ferry between Clay Township and Harsens Island may go up by one dollar. Champion’s Auto Ferry service is looking to increase the fee to $8 for almost all classes of vehicles. Owners of the service say traffic volume is down by 8% and with the rising costs of operation they are in need of a rate increase. The last increase was put into effect four years ago. New fees were expected to begin on May 1, but the Michigan Public Service Commission postponed the raise in order to do a more thorough investigation. The next scheduled meeting for a final ruling of the proposal is set for the last week of May.
