Tonight’s Port Huron City Council meeting will see council member discussion concerning the city paying for its share of a proposed convention center project on the Thomas Edison Parkway.  A public hearing on the extension of the Peerless Tax Increment Fund, which includes the Thomas Edison Inn property and others in the area, and giving those funds to St. Clair County to help pay for the project will be held as well. The Peerless TIF collects a portion of the taxes from properties within a designated district for specified improvements. The city is proposing a 30-year extension of the tax capture to pay for its share of the convention center project. That amount is estimated to be between $75,000 and $85,000 a year during the remainder of the TIF. The public hearing is part of the council’s regularly scheduled meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. in the public meeting room of the Municipal Office Center, 100 McMorran Blvd.
