Port Huron Police Asking For Grant
May 15th, 2012
The Port Huron Police Department will be submitting the required paperwork in an effort to obtain funding under the Fiscal year 2012 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Local solicitation…or JAG. The Department is seeking $17,640 in grant funds to conduct operation “Street Safe” which is intended to put officers in a directed patrol function to target neighborhoods with high crime activity. Officers under the program will focus on a strict enforcement approach that would concentrate on suspicious activities and high-risk offenders, and to provide a deterrent effect in high-crime areas. This would ultimately incapacitate dangerous offenders and reduce criminal activity. Citizens wishing to view the application may do so by visiting the Port Huron Police Department in person or viewing the application online at www.porthuronpolice.org. Questions regarding the application process can be directed to Captain Jeff Baker at 810-984-9710.
